Application Timeline

Application Timeline

Applying for a Fulbright grant to Norway is an intensive process which requires not only formulating an original research proposal (unless one is an ETA or Roving Scholar applicant), but also securing an affiliation. While dates in the application process fluctuate from year to year, the following timeline is intended to offer both suggested guidelines for completing the Fulbright application process and useful information regarding how the process unfolds up until one arrives in Norway as a grantee.

8 - 12 months before deadline

  • Begin to think about research ideas and the logistics for undertaking research in Norway
  • Familiarize yourself with Norway's universities, colleges, and research organizations, make a list of people you could contact about working on your proposed project

Summer/Fall before deadline

  • Having formulated a feasible research project, write your proposal and personal statement
  • Connect with your university fellowship office or other relevant department in order to get feedback on your application and proposal
  • Contact potential affiliations in Norway about your proposal and confirm their willingness to work with you during a potential Fulbright stay
  • If you are a student applying through your home university, submit materials for internal review by posted deadlines
