The U.S.-Norway Fulbright Foundation is pleased to announce that Mr. John Nelson has been chosen to receive the 2009 Lois Roth award.
Mr. Nelson is studying how environmental values and policies are shaped by the Norwegian welfare state model. His coursework at the University of Oslo’s Center for Development and the Environment covers sustainable development, ecophilosophy and the role of business in international environmental negotiations. He is planning to pursue a master’s degree at the Center, with a thesis on land use and regional development in Norway. Nelson is currently supplementing his coursework at the University of Oslo with an internship at the Oslo Regional Outdoors Council and voluntary work with the youth organization of the Development Fund NGO, Spire.
Nelson earned a BA in Russian from Williams College in 2007. However, undergraduate classes in Environmental Studies piqued Nelson’s interest and led to his decision to pursue a career in international environmental policy. Before coming to Norway, Nelson served as a staffer for Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire.
