The US-Norway Fulbright Foundation is pleased to announce that the number of applications for the 2010-11 academic year is
significantly greater than in previous years.
The deadline for Norwegian applicants was October 1st. A total of 153 students and researchers from all over the country submitted
applications for Fulbright grants versus 120 last year. This rise in interest was particularly pronounced among students;
applications in this category increased considerably over the previous year.
Fulbright staff worked diligently to advertise the grants. Their efforts were given an additional boost when the national
newspaper VG published
an article calling the opportunity provided by the Fulbright program a “super stipend.” Positive media coverage, along with the ongoing
promotional efforts of Fulbright staff and alumni, has helped to make the program better known in Norway. This increased awareness
was reflected in the current round of applications. In addition to a larger pool of applicants, Stipend Committee Members
note that the quality of applications has gone up as well.
The US-Norway Fulbright Foundation Board of Directors will meet in December to make final grant award selections for the upcoming
academic year. The application process for the 2011-12 academic year will begin next spring. Please keep an eye on the Fulbright
website for more information.
